Weather in Malta:
Throughout the summer months, you’re sure to hear quite a few booming explosions set off during the different village feasts. However there are a few very special nights that should not be missed, where the dark skies are lit up with some of the biggest and most beautiful displays of pyrotechnics in the world.
The Malta International Fireworks Festival is an annual event organised by the Ministry for Tourism and the Malta Tourism Authority that takes place over a weekend in late April. The event is always held at the magnificent Grand Harbour in Valletta, and visitors can watch the stunning scenes completely free of charge. The best place to view the spectacle is from the Upper Barrakka gardens, the Ta’ Liesse or Barriera Wharf or from a comfortable table at the Valletta Waterfront, where an ice-cold beer will add the perfect touch to a marvellous show. For a truly magical experience, some choose to rent a small boat and sail out to the middle of the Grand Harbour to watch the fireworks go off right above their heads.
The fireworks displays are designed by some of the best local firework factories as well as two foreign pyrotechnic companies. The firework displays are usually synchronised to music. The festival also forms part of the anniversary celebrations of Malta’s accession to the European Union in 2004.
